If you’re planning to spend the weekend camping, Folsom Lake is a wonderful Labor Day destination. There are multiple places to dock your boat, wonderful trails, and numerous campgrounds. Most campgrounds are fully booked at this point, but we found at least 15 sites still available. Check out the Discover Folsom website and reserve your campsite online!

Sacramento Gold Rush Days | August 30 – September 2, 2013

Sacramento Gold Rush Days are designed to take you back in time when prospectors first established the great city. During the Gold Rush Days, experience what life was like in early Sacramento history. Visit old time saloons, gambling tents, doctors, dentists, and the undertaker. Learn to Gold Pan, and watch melodramas put on by the Eagle Theatre. Hungry? Visit the Save Mart BBQ patio and enjoy delicious food and live music. Sacramento Area Labor Day 5K and 10K

Run the Golden Valley Harriers Labor Day 5K or 10K. The event is located in Davis, California, and proceeds go to local area school and community running programs. The event is held on Labor Day Monday. To register, visit the event website.

Chalk it Up to Sacramento

Looking for a quick activity on Labor Day? Check out the 2013 Chalk It Up Festival in Fremont Park.Stroll the sidewalks and be prepared to be amazed by the level of detail and realism of the sidewalk chalk art. For more information, visit the Chalk It Up Festival website.

The Discovery Museum Labor Day Campout (Aug 30th) and Camp-In (Sept 1-2)

If you’re looking for a low key, educational weekend, take your kiddos to the Discovery Museum for some Labor Day camping fun. The museum has a “camp” set up for kids to play in, including tents, sleeping bags, and a pretend fireplace. Admission includes the Space Quest! exhibit, animal presentations, and planetarium shows.  5th Annual One Love One Heart Reggae Music Festival

Campout for 3 days on the Sacramento River, and celebrate with live music, vendor booths, food, and more. The long list of artists includes Glen Washington, Alika, Ras Shiloh, Abja, Army, Danny-1, and more. Check out the event website for more details and ticket information.
